Sacagawea & Pomp Action FigureSacagawea was a member of the Agua Dika Shoshone nation before being captured and enslaved by the Mandan Nation as a young girl. She married Pierre Toussaint Charbonneau, the fur trader and gave birth to a son known as Pomp (Mandan for firstborn). His true name was Jean Baptiste. Charbonneau was hired by Lewis & Clark to accompany the Corps of Discovery. Having two wives to choose from, he chose to take Sacagawea on the expedition.
There is no known likeness of Sacagawea. Her features here have been modeled on contemporary descendants of Shoshone origin. She is wearing a blue beaded women's belt and abalone hair ornaments. Her dress is a three skin hide dress decorated in a simple style common to the Mandan.
A devoted member of the expedition, and the only female, she remains one of the most recognized Native American women. She is credited as a navigator, interpreter and negotiator. Upon reaching the Pacific Ocean, she was afforded one vote in the democratic process of selecting the site for their winter quarters. This was the first known recorded vote by a woman or a Native American in American history.
Adventure figure comes with all accessories shown. Due to small parts this figure is not recommended for small children.
