Captain Meriwether Lewis Action FigureLouisiana, purchased from Napoleon in 1803, more than doubled the size of the United States. Meriwether Lewis was uniquely suited to command an expeditionary force into this uncharted wilderness. Trained as a military officer, he was handpicked for the mission by Thomas Jefferson.
Presented here in the full military dress of an officer in the army, this is how Lewis would have appeared as he left St. Louis in 1804.
Lewis carried a pike as a symbol of military office in addition to his knife, sword, pistol and rifle. The uniform was important; Lewis was the first diplomatic representative to the New West. In addition to the diplomatic achievements with the Indians of the west, Lewis cataloged 170 new plant species and 120 species and subspecies of animals, finally returning in 1806 with a detailed, accurate survey of their route to the Pacific.
Meriwether Lewis went on to become governor of the Louisiana Territory until his untimely death in 1809. An enigmatic figure in life, he remains so in death.
Adventure figure includes all accessories shown. Due to small parts, this figure is not recommended for small children.
